Renee’ Fulkerson is a reliable student-focused yoga instructor, posture educator, and bodyworker with commitment and devotion to yoga and the instruction of yoga. She enjoys inspiring others to trust their body, get moving and feel the positive effects of their practice. Renee is optimistic and friendly, with a spirit for community.
Renee’s formal yoga teacher training studies began in Hatha Yoga with Scott Miller of Western Yoga College. Here she began to study Sadhana, The Yogic Path. The Yamas and Niyamas – yoga’s ethical practices, postures, breath, withdrawal, concentration, absorption, and integration. Kirtan, chanting, and mantra were a large part of this program. After completing her Hatha Yoga Teacher Training, she and her husband Peter opened Equada Outfitters and Yoga in the Southern California Mountain community of Big Bear Lake. She began teaching various styles of yoga and attended the inaugural year of Bhakti Fest. The three-day yoga festival allowed her to practice with senior yoga teachers and musicians from different yogic disciplines. Renee’ continued teaching yoga classes and returned to Scott Miller. And Western Yoga College to delve deeper into the study of the Yogic Path. After completing her five hundred hours in Hatha Yoga Teacher Training, she began to focus on the studio, and a yoga community was born. The studio offered a variety of yoga classes and gatherings. And also a community donation yoga class. With all proceeds benefiting her local animal shelter and food bank. And providing low-cost or no-cost activities for children. An opportunity and relocation for Renee’ and her family came after several years of service to her community through Equada Outfitters and Yoga.
Kauai is known as the Garden Island of the Hawaiian island chain. This island was to be her and her family’s new home base. Renee’ took this time to deepen her yoga practice and began her three-year commitment as an Event Coordinator. For a brand new and upcoming three-day yoga festival ~ Big Bear Yoga Festival in the Southern California Mountain community of Big Bear Lake. That allowed her to travel to the mainland frequently. Teach yoga classes, attend and study at Bhakti Fest and later added Shakti Fest. When she returned to Kauai, she began a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Kauai Yoga School with Michaelle Edwards, creator of YogAlign. The YogAlign training allowed her to combine her mainland prior certification as a Massage Practitioner from California School of the Physical Arts and knowledge of anatomy into practice. After completing her YogAlign training, she began transitioning from her commitments on the mainland to renting a space offering weekly YogAlign classes at Fit Lab Kauai.
In July of 2018, she completed a two-year, successful commitment to YogAlign Class offerings at Fit Lab Kauai. Renee’s YogAlign Classes found a new home at Anaina Hou Community Park Classroom in Kilauea and Hot Yoga Princeville. Along with her weekly YogAlign Class offerings Renee’ periodically taught at Michaelle Edwards Mana Yoga Center in Princeville. In the fall of 2020, Renee’ returned to Kauai Yoga School with Michaelle Edwards and completed a ten-day YogAlign Posture Educator Certification course. In hopes of one day offering her YogAlign Teacher Training (stay tuned).
Renee’ had to take a step back from studio offerings due to global health concerns and focused on smaller classes and private one-on-one Yoga offerings. Renee’ used the two years to delve deeper into anatomy, massage, and the YogAlign Method. Injury rehabilitation, post-surgery, and athletic performance recovery individuals became her YogAlign clients. The time allowed her to re-commit to her practice. And focus on family and friends.
In the spring of 2022, Renee’ and her husband Peter relocated to Maui, The Valley Isle, where she will attend Maui Academy of Healing Arts. And add a Hawaii state massage license to her mainland license. Renee’ is blessed and honored to have studied with many innovative teachers along her path. She is looking forward to the future and its infinite possibilities. For now, you can find her doing what she loves most, sharing her love of yoga and massage with others in any way that may transpire.
